Following extensive refurbishment, including energy efficiency upgrades, the Große Oderstraße residential complex in Frankfurt (Oder) is once again available to Viadrina students. The building on Grenzbrücke has 107 modern beds in 71 one-room apartments and 18 one-bed rooms in two-room apartments.

With the publication of the new statutes on 04.09.2024 in the official gazette of the state of Brandenburg, Studentenwerk Frankfurt (Oder) will be renamed Studierendenwerk Ost:Brandenburg. This new name now better reflects the actual area of activity. At the same time, the logo and corporate design are also changing.

In addition to BAföG, the study start-up grant is being launched for the first time. It is a one-off grant of €1,000 and is intended for first-year students from low-income households. The aim of the study start-up grant is to reduce potential obstacles when deciding to study. The money is to be used for typical expenses associated with starting university, such as semester fees, a rent deposit or a laptop.

There will be a number of improvements to BAföG in the winter semester. For example, the basic requirement rates, the allowances, the flat-rate housing allowance and the health insurance and long-term care insurance supplements will be increased. After the standard period of study, a flexible semester can be applied for and a change of subject or discontinuation of studies can take place up to the start of the 5th semester.

The Studentenwerk Frankfurt (Oder) will become a model region for the nutritional turnaround in Germany. This project aims to promote sustainable and healthy diets in the regions, bio-regional value creation and healthy nutrition in communal catering. Duration: 01.09.2024 to 31.08.2027.

The Studentenwerk Frankfurt (Oder) is introducing a revised menu in its canteens in cooperation with “Kantine Zukunft”. More fresh food is cooked in the canteens, mostly without ready-made products. More fresh, seasonal and regional ingredients are used. The proportion of organic ingredients is increasing.

The Studentenwerk Frankfurt (Oder) welcomes its new Managing Director Dorit Wehling in a formal appointment ceremony. The appointment of a new Managing Director became necessary because the previous Managing Director, Monique Zweig, took over as Managing Director of the IHK Ostbrandenburg on April 1, 2024.

A rehearsal room is put into operation in the Fanfare Guards building in Frankfurt (Oder). Equipped with a piano, drums and guitar amplifier, students can make music here individually.
