From the summer semester 2025, first-semester students from low-income households can apply for the study start-up grant of 1,000 euros. Applications can be submitted digitally via the online portal “BAföG Digital”.

Who is eligible to apply?

  • under 25 years old

  • enrolled in a full-time degree program at a university for the first time

  • Proof possible of having received social benefits before the start of studies (housing benefit, child supplement, citizen’s allowance, social assistance)

Important deadlines for the application:

  • Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNE): April 30

  • Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) and European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder): May 31
